Soumayya Ghannoushi is a researcher at the School of Oriental and African Studies and a columnist for the online English Al-Jazeera. She is believed to be the daughter of Rashid Ghannoushi, the head of the Tunisian franchise of the Muslim Brotherhood: the Al-Nahda Movement.
Below is a selection of Soumayya Ghannoushi statements in ‘Comment is Free’ “in her own words”.
“The pretext for these endless killings is the Qassam rockets. But the truth is that the daily incursions, assassinations, and embargo, have proceeded without fail before and after the rockets. The excuses change all the time, but the reality of occupation remains the same.” Gaza explodes January 23, 2008
“The second is the demand that Arabs recognise the Jewishness of the Israeli state. This would effectively wipe out the existence of over four million Palestinian refugees. It would mean the legitimisation of the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians by Zionist gangs and militias in the lead up to, and after the establishment of the state of Israel and possible ethnic cleansing of the remaining 1.5 millions inside Israel.” Chasing a ghost November 27, 2007
“Sadly, Carter’s talk of Israeli apartheid is not grounded in fantasies nor in conspiracy theories, but in the facts on the ground. Reading the critics, one would have thought that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land, the transformation of its people into refugees, the roadblocks and the apartheid wall, which annexes 50% of the West Bank, tearing Palestinian towns and villages apart and destroying the lives of thousands of Palestinians, were all figments of Carter’s imagination.” Telling it like it is December 14, 2006
