The Guardian refers to Palestinian terrorist Samer Issawi as a “political prisoner”.

Last week, we posted about an April 9 story by Harriet Sherwood which reported on recent efforts by US Secretary of State John Kerry to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Sherwood’s story included  details about some of the concessions demanded by PA President Mahmoud Abbas before he will agree to resume negotiations with Israel, and included the following sentence:

The Palestinians also want the release of 123 political prisoners who have been in jail since before the Oslo accords were signed almost 20 years ago, and for Israel to present a map showing proposed borders. [emphasis added]

As we demonstrated, however, most of the 123 Palestinians she alluded to (whose release Abbas has been demanding since last year), were convicted for their involvement in deadly terror attacks. Sherwood’s characterization of the 123 Palestinians as “political prisoners” – suggesting that they were imprisoned merely for their beliefs – is erroneous.  We also observed that Sherwood was evoking the Palestinian narrative which insists that even “compatriots convicted of deadly terrorist acts [are] political prisoners and fighters for the Palestinian cause”.

Sherwood’s latest, ‘EU urged to secure Palestinian prisoner’s release from Israeli jail‘, April 17, again advances this misleading narrative in a report on recent demands by Saeb Erekat that Palestinian prisoner Samer Issawi – who’s been on a hunger strike to protest his detention – should be released.

Here’s the photo the Guardian used to illustrate the story:

Samer Issawi protest

Here’s the Guardian’s photo caption:

Protesters in London hold up posters calling for freedom of Palestinian political prisoners including hunger striker Samer Issawi.

Issawi – who was freed by Israel in 2011 as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange, but recently re-arrested for violating his release conditions - was originally sentenced to 26 years in prison for his involvement in a series of violent terror attacks, including indiscriminately firing an assault rifle at public buses, and manufacturing and distributing pipe bombs used in attacks on Israeli civilians.

A “political prisoner” is a person ‘imprisoned for their political beliefs or actions’.

No reasonable person can characterize Issawi’s crimes in a manner which fits that definition.

It is indeed that simple.

  1. If Assawi is a terrorists than so were those who issued this warning -Israel on a daily basis, kills Palestinians, demolish their houses and imprisons many Palestinians without trial – some of those imprisoned are children and many Palestinians are tortured. What was done to the Palestinian villages in 1948 was an act of terrorism. Palestinians have every right to respond to the occupation and the oppression Israel is putting them through. It was not only the Guardian but internationally, in every continent, in every country and in every city many people marked the Palestinian Prison Day and demanded that Israel release those held without trial, including Issawi immediately. Injustice will always provoke resistance.

The Irgun also began carrying out reprisal missions, as it had under David Raziel’s command. At the same time though, it published announcements calling on the Arabs to lay down their weapons and maintain a ceasefire:
The National Military Organization has warned you, if the murderous attacks on Jewish civilians shall continue, its soldiers will penetrate your centers of activity and plague you. You have not heeded the warning. You continued to harm our brothers and murder them in wild cruelty. Therefore soldiers of the National Military Organization will go on the attack, as we have warned you.
… However even in these frenzied time, when Arab and Jewish blood is spilled at the British enslaver, we hereby call upon you … to stop the attacks and create peace between us. We do not want a war with you. We are certain that neither do you want a war with us….[40]

  2. Jeremy Hunt is responsible for the murder of my patience with imbecilles.

Deir Yassin had several hundred villages?
As fa as it is nowadays known a shooting took place at Deir Yassin and when the village was stormed between forty to sixty people were shot.
Anything else looks like the bloodthirsty fantasy of the likes of Hunt and Mondoweiss, renowned antisemites.

  3. I suppose what difference does it make 40 today 60 tomorrow and soon it will all be over – so they think – in their dreams

According to Benny Morris a Zionist Historian
According to your findings, how many acts of Israeli massacre were perpetrated in 1948?

“Twenty-four. In some cases four or five people were executed, in others the numbers were 70, 80, 100. There was also a great deal of arbitrary killing. Two old men are spotted walking in a field – they are shot. A woman is found in an abandoned village – she is shot. There are cases such as the village of Dawayima [in the Hebron region], in which a column entered the village with all guns blazing and killed anything that moved.

“The worst cases were Saliha (70-80 killed), Deir Yassin (100-110), Lod (250), Dawayima (hundreds) and perhaps Abu Shusha (70). There is no unequivocal proof of a large-scale massacre at Tantura, but war crimes were perpetrated there. At Jaffa there was a massacre about which nothing had been known until now. The same at Arab al Muwassi, in the north. About half of the acts of massacre were part of Operation Hiram [in the north, in October 1948]: at Safsaf, Saliha, Jish, Eilaboun, Arab al Muwasi, Deir al Asad, Majdal Krum, Sasa. In Operation Hiram there was a unusually high concentration of executions of people against a wall or next to a well in an orderly fashion.

“That can’t be chance. It’s a pattern. Apparently, various officers who took part in the operation understood that the expulsion order they received permitted them to do these deeds in order to encourage the population to take to the roads. The fact is that no one was punished for these acts of murder. Ben-Gurion silenced the matter. He covered up for the officers who did the massacres.”

  4. I see, a lying creep changes tune.
From several hundred villages (sic!) to 100-110.
And again, as antisemite Natzie always does, some citations copypasted without any validity.

    • Hunt lies about Tantura.
Ilan Pappe shown to be a fraud and a liar.
      From Steven Plaut.

About four years ago a middle aged MA student named Teddy Katz, submitted a masters thesis to the University of Haifa that had been prepared under the supervision of Israels most extremist and anti-Zionist academic, Ilan Pappe. Pappe likes to describe himself as Israels most hated person and I suspect he may be on to something there.

He spends his days addressing anti-Israel and anti-Jewish rallies and conferences around the globe and likes to write Israel-bashing pieces in the PLOs journal. He appears in al-Ahram. He has openly called for Israel’s destruction – to be replaced by a Palestinian state with Arafat as its dictator.

He ran for the Knesset on the slate of the Arab Stalinist party HADASH.
The MA thesis in question claimed that a platoon of the Alexandroni brigade of the Hagana had in 1948 conducted a massacre of Arabs at the town of Tantura near Haifa when the town was conquered in Israels war of independence.

It was of course, as it turned out, a complete fabrication based on some Arabs suddenly recovering from repressed memory syndrome after 50 years and claiming there had been a massacre when they were infants. Except when the tapes of interviews with these folks were checked out, it turned out even these Arabs had never said there was any massacre but rather that the Hagana had been very nice about helping the civilians.

Katz and Pappe had simply invented the story. When word hit the press, the Hagana vets organization sued Katz and the University of Haifa for libel. Eventually the matter reached a court settlement in which Katz agreed to admit publicly he had lied, publish a retraction at his own expense, and apologize to the vets. Katz was represented in all this by ultras-leftist lawyer Avigdor Feldman, who took time off from his usual passion for representing Arabs who have murdered Jewish children.

Feldman was present when Katz signed the court settlement.
But a few days after that, Katz tried to back out of the settlement, probably under encouragement to do so by Pappe, who continues to insist the massacre really took place even though not a shred of evidence has ever been discovered by anyone that there had been one. (Even Arab journalists and reporters who had been present at the battle never claimed there had been any massacre.) The judge refused to allow Katz to back out of the deal. When Katz refused to publish the retraction, the vets successfully sued Katz to recover their costs. Pappe and the communists then organized a campaign to try to raise cash to help out Katz with this.

Meanwhile, the University of Haifa looked ridiculous in all of this and demanded that Katz submit a revised version of the thesis if he wanted a degree. The original version had been awarded a grade of 97 by Pappe and his collaborators.

Katz ultimately did resubmit a revised thesis. This week the University of Haifa rejected it, after five independent reviewers had read it and dismissed it as garbage. Pappe and his comrades are running about now insisting that these five were lackeys of Ariel Sharon and George Bush or some similar sort of academically scrupulous argument. The University agreed to kick Katz out by granting him a MA degree without a thesis, an act of cowardice by the campus authorities. Katz should have been simply expelled permanently and Pappe fired for his role in the fabrication and charlatanism.

Anyway, I have decided to make an alternative proposal about how the university could better resolve things. Why not just let Katz write a completely NEW thesis on a different topic under Pappes supervision? This time the thesis should be on one of these topics:

      - An oral history proving the Germans never killed any Jews in Auschwitz.

      - An oral history proving that Lincoln actually shot John Wilkes Booth at that theater.

      - Proof that the Mossad was really behind the attack on the WTC on September 11.

      - An oral history that proves that Jews, and especially settlers, drink the blood of gentile children on Passover after all.
I bet Pappe would give the new thesis a grade of 98!

  5. Troll — aka “Jason”, “Jabal Karim”, &c…
I am very much loath to quote myself, but here are some sections of that interview you continue to fail to mention(time after time again; though I have brought them to your attention):
(By the way, don’t you tire of copying and pasting?)

“At the same time, it turns out that there was a series of orders issued by the Arab Higher Committee and by the Palestinian intermediate levels to remove children, women and the elderly from the villages. [It] also proves that many of those who left the villages did so with the encouragement of the Palestinian leadership itself.(!!)”

And, you blubbering, trolling idiot; even you write, thus:

There is no explicit order of his in writing, there is no orderly comprehensive policy…!

Why do you refrain from citing, this? Morris continues:

Remember another thing: the Arab people gained a large slice of the planet. Not thanks to its skills or its great virtues(!), but because it[sic] conquered and murdered and forced(!!) those it conquered to convert during many generations. But in the end the Arabs have 22 states. The Jewish people did not have even one state. There was no reason in the world why it should not have one state.

Bad news for you; it seems Morris is adamant you should give up your treasured Pakistan… I can only agree with him.
(Full interview, without the redaction and prevarications by our Troll-de-jure, is available here)

    • Interestingly, Pakistan was created less than a year before Israel was created.

The population transfer and loss of life were far greater in the case of the partition of India than in the case of the partition of the Palestinian Mandate territories, and the state that was created by the partition of India is far less successful by every measure (including its human rights record) than is Israel, yet nobody–including He Who Doesn’t Know His Own Name–seems to be clamoring for BDS against Pakistan.

      I wonder why.

      • Absolutely, cba!
Furthermore, notice the formidable(and evocative) case of Sri Lanka(who announced its independence — almost — concurrently with Israel)…
Insurgency in Sri Lanka, though far more deadly than the entire Pal.-Israeli conflict, for its entire duration(lowest estimates point to a 65,000(civilian) death toll), and despite heinous, inhumane repressive methods used by Sri Lanka(and India) to quell that insurrection — far exceeding anything Israel could even have dared to contemplate(let alone actually try) — not a single cry for BDS, “No-Normalization” or other such garbage is ever heard, re Sri Lanka…
Sri Lankan tea, by the way, is the best selling such crop on the market.
So where’s the “Humanitarian effort” to boycott it, for the benefit of the struggling(now humiliated) Tamils?
That’s right: those are crickets you hear chirping.
(Our good friend “Jabal Karim”, who has presently been reborn as “Jeremy Hunt” is also mum on the devious implements used by his dear Pakistan to suppress the uprisings in E. Pakistan — Bangladesh(not to mention their[Pakistan's] state sponsored anti-Hindu terrorism in pre-Partition India, and Kashmir after the war).

        • You’re so right.

It was dramatic when Sri Lanka were killing many thousands of Tamils (to the praise of the UN) at the same time that Israel was fighting in Gaza (to the condemnation of the UN).

  6. Yawn. Your tiresome trolling, repeating your lies and self-righteous crap about how anyone who points out your lies is a Nazi or a fascist or a racist, deserve no substantive response.

Now – returning to the topic of the thread – answer us this simple question, Jeremy. Is Samer Issawi a “political prisoner” or a “terrorist”?

  7. Labenal – I do not make anything up – I quote from historians acknowledged by the Zionists. I quote the actions and in doing so I do not have to quote the justification. Of course, there is no denying,, just like the fascists of the last century, today’s fascists feel they are justified in their atrocious behavior. You can check the quotes yourself if you want.

    • Hmm. So is Samer Issawi a “political prisoner” or a “terrorist”?

I’m not sure I detected an answer to that question in your reply.

  8. The photo is apt, the people protesting are blindfolded, which is appropriate for some of the wilfully codependent “supporters” of “poor, oppressed” Palestinians, whose support maintains their “oppression”.

  9. Labenal – Samer is a Political Prisoner locked by the Israelis for fighting for the rights of his people.

Now it is your turn. Is Israel right to occupy Palestine? Was David Ben Gurion a Zionist and racist towards the Palestinians? Are you going to condemn the ethnic cleansing that David Ben Gurion approved and Israeli administrations since have been carrying out for the last fifty years?

Now for the other questions you and others raised. Following are my answers. Sri Lanka was wrong to kill the Tamils and Pakistani Generals who massacred the Bengalis should have been locked up and keys thrown away.

Perhaps you will do the courtesy of answering what remains the main issue. Do you support the occupation of Palestine?

    • The troll is pretending to be me again.

I thought he’d got over his crush on me, but it seems I was wrong.

      Unrequited love is so sad.

      • “The troll is pretending to be me again.”

Uh oh, I hope I’m not next again in “feeling the love.”

  10. Labenal – that reply is not cba but from me – something wrong with the blog –

    • “Do you support the occupation of Palestine?” Jeremiah-the-Hut

I support the occupation of your arse by your Salafist buddies.

    • Thanks for answering the question. As that is the subject of this thread, please allow me to retort (as Jules might have said). Are you therefore suggesting that indiscriminately firing bullets at a civilian bus is an act of “political” protest?

To me, that sounds like as clear an example of terrorism as you could wish for.

I do not propose to answer your other leading questions here, because I will not get distracted from the subject of this thread by a troll.

  11. Assawi is currently being held without charge or trial. He is therefore a victim of gross injustice.

If you are not serious about discussing the issues that is fine. I understand it would be difficult for you to justify openly and in writing the treatment Assawi is receiving.

Assawi nevertheless remains a victim of Israel’s abuse of human rights and international conventions and international laws.

Assawi is being promised release provided he leaves Jerusalem. This is a blatant attempt of ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem of its Palestinian citizens. House demolitions, differential marriage laws are all racists and designed to ethnically cleanse Jerusalem. I salute Assawi for standing firm against the racism he faces.

One day Palestinians will be free to live all over Palestine, including Jerusalem. Injustice cannot last for ever. Fascism in Europe was defeated ultimately. It will be defeated in Palestine.

    • Issawi, you revolting troll, has been convicted for the varied crimes, and I quote, as follows(from this very article):

[Issawi] was sentenced to 26 years in prison for his involvement in a series of violent terror attacks, including indiscriminately firing an assault rifle at public buses, and manufacturing and distributing pipe bombs used in attacks on Israeli civilians.

Try defeating that sort of “Fascism”, why don’t you.

    • Jeremy. You make your stance perfectly clear. “I salute Assawi for standing firm against the racism he faces.” You salute a man who shoots automatic weapons at civilian buses. In my book, that is simply despicable and inexcusable behaviour, no matter what the provocation or circumstances, no matter who the perpetrator and who the victims. If you choose to “salute” such behaviour, I have no further time or energy for you.

      Goodbye.

  12. Commentary101 – Stop your lies – Here is what Assawi himself had to say – his current arrest is for alleged violation of his condition of freedom – Not that anybody will respect the condition Israel will put on peoples freedom.

My story is no different from that of many other Palestinian young people who were born and have lived their whole lives under Israeli occupation. At 17, I was arrested for the first time, and jailed for two years. I was arrested again in my early 20s, at the height of the second intifada in Ramallah, during an Israeli invasion of numerous cities in the West Bank – what Israel called Operation Defensive Shield. I was sentenced to 30 years in prison on charges relating to my resistance to the occupation.

I am not the first member of my family to be jailed on my people’s long march towards freedom. My grandfather, a founding member of the PLO, was sentenced to death by the British Mandate authorities, whose laws are used by Israel to this day to oppress my people; he escaped hours before he was due to be executed. My brother, Fadi, was killed in 1994, aged just 16, by Israeli forces during a demonstration in the West Bank following the Ibrahimi mosque massacre in Hebron. Medhat, another brother, has served 19 years in prison. My other brothers, Firas, Ra’afat and Shadi were each imprisoned for five to 11 years. My sister, Shireen, has been arrested numerous times and has served a year in prison. My brother’s home has been destroyed. My mother’s water and electricity have been cut off. My family, along with the people of my beloved city Jerusalem, are continuously harassed and attacked, but they continue to defend Palestinian rights and prisoners.

After almost 10 years in prison, I was released in the Egypt-sponsored deal between Israel and Hamas to release the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. However, on 7 July 2012, I was arrested again near Hizma, an area within the municipality of Jerusalem, on charges of violating the terms of my release (that I should not leave Jerusalem). Others who were released as part of that deal were also arrested, some with no declared reason. Accordingly, I began a hunger strike on 1 August to protest against my illegal imprisonment and Israel’s violation of the agreement.

My health has deteriorated greatly, but I will continue my hunger strike until victory or martyrdom. This is my last remaining stone to throw at the tyrants and jailers in the face of the racist occupation that humiliates our people.

I draw my strength from all the free people in the world who want an end to the Israeli occupation. My weak heartbeat endures thanks to this solidarity and support; my weak voice gains its strength from voices that are louder, and can penetrate the prison walls.

My battle is not just for my own freedom. My fellow hunger strikers, Ayman, Tarik and Ja’afar, and I are fighting a battle for all Palestinians against the Israeli occupation and its prisons. What I endure is little compared to the sacrifice of Palestinians in Gaza, where thousands have died or been injured as a result of brutal Israeli attacks and an unprecedented and inhuman siege.

    • Stop your trolling and sock-puppeteering you disgusting and brazen supporter of terrorism…
Question: why should I put any stock in the rantings of a would-be murderer and assailant?
      Why don’t you stop lying?
Here’s what Issawi had done, which earned him serious jail time(the conditions of his release mandated that he desist from terrorist activities — a very benign request — a demand he vitiated):

Samer Issawi of Issawiyeh, Jerusalem was arrested in April 2002 and sentenced to 26 years for attempted murder, belonging to an unrecognized (terror) organization, military training, and possession of weapons, arms and explosive materials.

      And this addendum:

[Issawi] was convicted of severe crimes, including five attempts of intentional death(!!). This included four shootings, between July 2001 and February 2002, in which Isawi and his partners fired on police cars and buses travelling between Ma’ale Adumim and Jerusalem(!!). In one attack, a policeman was injured and required surgery. On October 30, 2001, Isawi, together with an accomplice, fired at two students walking from the Hebrew University campus[Students, for Heaven's sake!] to their car in a nearby parking lot. In another case, Isawi provided guns and explosive devices to a squad, who fired on a bus. Finally, in December 2001, Isawi ordered an attack on security personnel at Hebrew University, providing a squad with a pistol and a pipebomb. Two of the squad members tracked security personnel but opted not to execute the attack.

Why don’t you stop lying, you Pakistani twit, and apologising for a terrorist?

  13. Lebanel – you mentioned no matter what the provocation – so I gave you an example
where that is not true unless you are saying otherwise – As Benny Morris says to create a Jewish state of Israel it was necessary to massacre the villagers at Dir Yassin – and David Ben Gurion was complicit in doing that and justifiably so according to Morris and I am assuming you – So, even if it were true, that Assawi had fired a shot at a Bus it could be justified. However, he did not. So I am keeping to the subject. You are unable to present a coherent argument and resorting to name calling. That is fine. It is your choice. I still contend that Issawi is a victim of Israel’s attempt at ethnic cleansing and I salute him for his courage to stand up against tyranny.

    • Tosspot, you make so many assumptions about me, leap around from incoherent rant to incomplete quote and accuse ME of being “unable to present a coherent argument”!

If you ever read any of the replies to your incessant tripe on this blog you will see that I have consistently said that I regret EVERY civilian death, be it Israeli, Palestinian or Martian, and that I wish NONE had ever happened. I do NOT justify any deliberate attacks on civilians, so you can stop making stupid and unsupported assumptions about me and my opinions.

You seem to think that all supporters of Israel are dyed-in-the-wool, irredeemable racists with no soul. Well, guess what? the feeling (about you) is entirely mutual.

      Now bugger off.

  14. So Lebanal if David Ben Gurion was alive today should he be in an Israeli Prison? Please answer the question and refrain from sanctimonious rantings please. It is difficult to have an intelligent discussion when people are sanctimonious with a holier than thou attitude. I think all they are doing is trying to hide their guilt.

    • “It is difficult to have an intelligent discussion when people are sanctimonious with a holier than thou attitude. I think all they are doing is trying to hide their guilt.”

Spot on Jeremy. Self-awareness is very important. Keep up the good work.

    • By the way, if you are going to keep addressing me, do please try to spell my moniker correctly. It’s just good manners, old chap.

  15. So, Labenal – continue talking to yourself and be sanctimonious . Assawi will be free one day and so would Palestine.

    • Assawi was free. He was released as part of the deal Israel struck to get their man back from captivity in Gaza. Funny – you don’t seem bothered that that was without a trial, or any sort of judicial oversight, or any regard to his human rights.

Assawi chose to ignore the reasonable security restrictions placed on his release, so forfeited his freedom.

As for “so would Palestine”. I too pray Palestine will soon be free – of the leaders who continually put their own foolish power grabs above the welfare of their own people. As soon as a Palestinian leadership comes along which is genuinely interested in peace, there will be peace, and the Palestinians and Israelis can enjoy safety and security in their own states.

I am glad we agree on that (ha ha ha)!

    • “Assawi will be free one day and so would Palestine.”

Part is already free. It’s called Israel (pardon me for preferring the indigenous name “Israel”, I know how much that must bother you).
As for the rest of it, doubtful, the way the Arabs go about things. Lots of frustration and let downs ahead for you.

  16. Labenal – Once again you are confusing the issue. Gilad is a soldier in the Army of occupation and was taken prisoner. He was treated as a Prisoner of War. Assawi was not a member of the army. Israel negotiated his release. He kept to the agreement but was arrested by the occupying forces in breach of the agreement that secured Gilad’s release. Again, this is a clear indication of the bad faith that Israel and its supporters exhibit. Anyway you have once again refused to answer the questions raised in the discussion but have raised another issue. Never mind they are all related to the central issue we are discussing and that is the illegal occupation of Palestine and Israel’s inhuman treatment. Besides, Israel is saying we will release him if he decides to leave Jerusalem. It is a clear attempt to ethnically clean Jerusalem of its Palestinians. It is not going to work. Thanks to individuals like Assawi who are not afraid to stand for their rights.

Should you not be asking for immediate release of Assawi on humanitarian grounds or you do not do humanitarian for the Palestinians.

    • He [Schalit] was treated as a Prisoner of War.
The hell he was. Here are a few violations: Schalit wasn’t allowed visits from the Red Cross. For years his family wasn’t even given a sign of life. etc. etc. etc.

      He kept to the agreement
About as truthful as the previous statement.

It is a clear attempt to ethnically clean Jerusalem of its Palestinians
And yet the Arab population of Jerusalem keeps growing. Israel really sucks at this “ethnic cleansing” thing.

    • Do you mean Jeremy that all of Israel is occupied even in the 48 boreders? because Shalit was kidnapped from within those borders.

  17. cba – no problem you calling me a liar – anyway I am in good company here is the Jewish Chronicle lying about ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem

    Ethnic Cleansing in East Jerusalem

    By gordon bennett
    January 18, 2010

Panorama will no doubt be slammed by the usual suspects for being “anti-Israel”, but it spoke to Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat and someone from the extremist settler group Elad — which is funded to the tune of $40 million a year by Irving Moscowitz, the US casino tycoon, and others — who made it clear that Israel discriminates against Palestinians in the allegedly united capital.
    This is what they said:
Nearly 10 times more building permits are given to Jews in west Jerusalem than to Palestinians in the east of the city.
“You are right,” said Nir Barkat, the Mayor of Jerusalem. “There are gaps in the planning system – both in east and west Jerusalem.”
But he was adamant that the municipality had to act when houses were built illegally in what Israelis Jews consider to be parkland that has strategic importance in terms of the religious archaeology in the area.
[Silwan]“is a goldmine,” Doron Spielman, from Elad explained. “The cornerstone of the archaeology of the Bible throughout the world.”
The Palestinians accuse Elad of undermining them both by digging under their houses and emphasising only Jewish history here.
Mr Spielman said no Arab or Muslim history had been unearthed at the site, although some archaeologists disagree. [No Arab or Muslim history? What are those two mosques on Temple Mount-Haram al-Sharif, then?]
“Israel is the sovereign entity here,” said Mr Spielman. “And if we can enable more Jewish people to live here, more archaeology to become known here then I am proud of that.”
Remember this isn’t really new. When he was Interior Minister, Natan Sharanski, that great defender of human rights, tried to revoke East Jerusalem Palestinians’ residency rights if they had houses elsewhere. I didn’t see him revoking the residency rights of the rich foreign Jews of Mamilla, who also own houses elsewhere.

    • “cba – no problem you calling me a liar”

Well, at least that’s settled. After all, “Jeremy,” you ARE a liar right down to your monikers.

  18. Jeremy Hunt, there were 70,000 Palestinians in Jerusalem in 1967, today there are 280,000 Palestinians. Thats a growth of 4 times.
The Israelis must be the worst ethnic cleansers in history.

In 1948, 850,000 Jews lived in the Arab countries.
Today less then 9000 Jews live in the 22 Arab countries.
So their are your ethnic cleansers.

  19. Jeremy Hunt, What do you think Israel should do when Hamas terrorists are firing thousands of rockets at Israeli civilians?
Send Swiss chocolate in return for every rocket?

  20. Jeremy, what do the Palestinians think they will accomplish by sending rockets into Israel? 72 virgins.
Are they not asking for what they are getting? The Palestinians are making their own bed. The blood is on their hands.

  21. Israel has not only survived but also thrives in-spite of all the horror, lies, and hatred she has endured from the Arab/Palis by a sheer MIRACLE, and the resilience of the Jewish people and her supporters.
Islamo fascist supporters like Jeremy Hunt will not break the spirit of Israel.

  22. All deaths, whether it was friendly fire or civilians killed collaterally because Hamas fires rockets behind civilians at Israeli civilians could have been avoided if Hamas just did not fire any rockets into Israel at all!
Again and again and again it is Arab aggression that causes Israeli defensive use of force!
Arabs cannot ever be trusted to tell the truth. Even when they kill their own, they will blame it on Israel or twist the truth to demonize Israel when it is always the Palestinian Arabs who refuse to live in peace with the Jewish state of Israel, it always has been!
Due to the many generations of Arab training to hate and kill Jews, i dont see how peace is possible with these Pal hatemongers.

  23. Jeremy Hunt says,
UN has made many mistakes including the division of Palestine.

Learn some history. There was never in history any state called Palestine governed by Palestinians.
The Palestinians are really unwanted Arabs from the surrounding Arab countries who came to the land late in the Ottoman Empire and during the British Mandate.

“FATHI HAMMAD” admits Palestinians are an invented people and are really Arabs from other Arab countries.

  24. Jeremy Hunt, the 48 war was the was the result of the Palestinians together with their Arab allies to perform ethnic cleansing on the Jews and their failure to complete it.

Every single Jew in the parts of the Mandate seized by the Arabs was expelled from their homes. No exceptions. They even dynamited the entire ancient Jewish quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem in an attempt to wipe out the history of Jewish residence there. They also made it illegal for a Jew to live in the areas of the former Mandate that they controlled, including East Jerusalem, West Bank, Gaza and Jordan.
850,000 Jews were also forced from the Arab countries.

After the 5 Arab armies attacked Israel in 48,Haj Amin Al Husseini stated:
I declare a holy war, my muslim brothers! Murder the Jews! Murder them all!
The Arab League Secretary, General Azzam Pasha declared “a holy war. He said, “This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.

  29. Haha! “I’m glad wer (sic) are keeping to the topic” says “Jeremy” then goes back to a completely different topic which is nothing whatsoever to do with this thread.

Well done Adam for removing this troll’s blatant lies and smears from this thread.

  30. cba – no problem you calling me a liar – anyway I am in good company here is the Jewish Chronicle lying about ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem

  31. “– no problem you calling me a liar” Jeremy-fucked-up

You’re not only a contumacious liar, but also a creep, a pathetic sock-puppeteer,
a fraud, a moron, an idiot, a prick, a retard and a bore. Piss off, troll.

  32. Jeremy – what have you proved by copying and pasting this semi-coherent blog from JC Online?

    1. Gordon Bennett is semi-literate.
    2. The JC allows (nay encourages) a diversity of views and opinions about Israel.
    3. Gordon Bennett is a joke.
    4. By representing a semi-literate blogger as tehe official view of the JC, you demnstrate yet again that you are a joke.

  33. Not forgetting that many site in west Jerusalem were Jewish property until 1948 when Jordanian stole it from the Jews they ethnicly cleansed from Jerusalem.
