A large H/T to Akus
Below is the title and subheading of Harriet Sherwood’s Aug. 17 piece about Jerusalem’s Light Rail Project, Jerusalem’s long-awaited light railway splits opinion, which, as I commented on yesterday, was characterized as a violation of international law,
It includes the original reference to a “Jewish grip” on E. Jerusalem, which I underlined in red: (via a cached version of the page).
The subheading was subsequently changed to “Israeli grip”:
The offensive phrase was also originally used in the following passage in Sherwood’s report:
“The project’s many critics include those who believe that, in a city with a long history of bombings, the light railway is vulnerable to attack. Others claim it is the latest example of the tightening Jewish grip on the Arab east of the city, part of an attempt to create an indivisible Jerusalem.
And, was likewise revised to:
The project’s many critics include those who believe that, in a city with a long history of bombings, the light railway is vulnerable to attack. There are others who claim it is the latest example of the tightening Israeli grip on the Arab east of the city, part of an attempt to create an indivisible Jerusalem.
The revised edition has this editor’s note:
• This article has been amended to correct language inconsistent with Guardian editorial guidelines

O Guardian thou art sick.
The antisemitic worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret hate
Does thy life destroy.
(apologies to W. Blake)

Well, someone at home office is learning … but there woman on the spot has clearly learned the word “Yahud” from her Arab friends.
I was trying to think up possible improvements for the sub-header the Guardian could have used:
“Does Harriet needed a new copy editor, or does the Guardian’s copy editor need a new Harriet? You be the judge!”
Or:
“Guardian realizes not all Israelis are Jews”
Or:
“Guardian fears Israeli Arabs are tightening grip on East Jerusalem and removes reference to Jews”

Why not:
“Harriet Sherwood bangs her head. No serious injury but, amazingly, some sense is knocked in.”

Nice to see Der Guardian editorial standards being applied AFTER publishing racist doggerl.
How many times has Der Guardian published in its dead tree version racist articles and not had the means to correct their lies.
Time to SHUT DOWN Der Guardian for being the racist rag it is.

The Guardian newspaper ‘cleanses’ free speech. It is a terribly bias newspaper that denies any comment other than its own. Wherever I go my advice to people now is to stop buying The Guardian because of the extreme way they handle comment that a ‘moderator’ does not agree with. If a ‘moderator’ is of a certain persuasion or race it appears that they will delete anything they do not like. The Guardian is a disgrace to journalism and my best advice is not to buy it, read it or become involved with it. It offers itself up to open debate and when comments from registered users are sent it the Guardian removes all of them except those that give the emphasis it wants. In short it pretends that the public comments printed on its websites are all free and freely given when in reality the only comments that appear have been ‘cleansed’ down to those that they wish to publish and only those. This doctoring of peoples comments gives a warped and often completely different reporting on reality. This extreme left wing broadsheet is every bit as dangerous as the rantings of the extreme right wing and needs to be treated with exactly the same caution. BEWARE of The Guardian newspaper and take everything inside it with a huge pinch of salt. That is my honest opinion based on first hand experience and the experiences of many others. Old Joe Soap.
