WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL AND ISRAELI AUTHORS AND BUSINESSES

“That this House condemns the unilateral decision of West Dunbartonshire Council to boycott Israeli authors and businesses; notes that Israel is one of the only democracies in the Middle East where Arab citizens have genuine freedom and the rule of law, with an independent Supreme Court; further notes that there has been no boycott of dictatorships like Syria where the regime has killed many of its own citizens in recent days; regrets that West Dunbartonshire Council has expressed no concern for the brutal crimes of China, Iran, Sudan, North Korea, Sri Lanka, or Zimbabwe, which have appalling records on human rights; and therefore urges the people of Dunbartonshire to lobby their councillors strenuously against this offensive decision, which has echoes of Nazi Germany burning books by Jewish authors in the 1930s.”

I wonder if your ‘colleagues’ in West Dumbartonshire are speculating how to get rid of you. Your bigotry which attempts to highlight Israel negatively, are no doubt only part of ‘who you are’ and I can only hope that the constituents who voted for you are hanging their heads in shame. You have put West Dumbartonshire in the news but I feel sure that most of your (previous) supporters would prefer to fade back into anonymousness. You are a disgrace and I hope that this open display of your bigotry follows you for a good few years now.

Your stereotypical branding of ‘Zionists’ indicates the type of deeply ingrained bigotry which inevitably lies behind racism of one sort or another: a trait which any publicly elected official would normally do the utmost to avoid disclosing in modern Britain.
You, sir, seem intent upon bringing your council into disrepute, which I believe is an issue for your Standards Committee to urgently address.

I had an email from a Scottish hotel chain 2 weeks ago, inviting me to spend some time with them. I immediately emailed back that I was sorry but because of the actions of some Dunbarton councillors, I, and many other pro Israel individuals would be boycotting all things Scottish.
If these people in Dunbarton believe that their malicious and highly suspect actions have no cost, perhaps their fellow Scots might let them know that their political grandstanding is not in anyone’s interests, including by the way, the Palestinian Arabs.
The resolution in Parliament is spot on when it points out that these same councillors appear to have no concerns about any other place on the planet, only Israel.
