The hateful commentary towards Jews and Israel under Jane Eisner’s essay in CiF (Don’t be fooled by the applause, Binyamin Netanyahu), which, by the way, was highly critical of the Israeli PM, is a sight to be seen. We’re all too familiar with the fact that any CiF piece about Israel elicits a large degree of malice towards the Jewish community, but the level of vitriol following this piece (which now has over 400 comments) is especially egregious.
Here’s a sample:
Israel has compiled a “mound of [Palestinian] corpses” in the last several decades a hundred times worse than the damage done by terrorism: (628 Recommends)
American Jews who passionately support Israel are guilty of treason. (326 Recommends)
Israel will only make peace when they’re utterly defeated, as with Japan in 1945. Also, a furtive argument towards the end that Jews control Washington. (256 Recommends)
American Jews who support Israel are disloyal citizens. Israel is the tail that wags the “American dog”. Israel and her supporters will end up destroying America. (110 Recommends)
Congress are a bunch of sycophants who grovel at Israel’s feet. (63 Recommends)
Even liberal American Jews become “far right extremists”, who would even undermine their own President, when it comes to Israel.
This comment was deleted but is worth noting in its creative contempt. So much anti-Semitism packed in such a tiny rhetorical package.

Frankly, to see these people frothing futilely at the mouth brings joy to my heart.

Exactly. It’s a measure of how successful Netanyahu’s speeches have been and how widely they have been reported.

This was placed on CIF late in the evening and continued through the night – and, as expected, out came the freaks. Why did the Guardian Krew deviate from the usual policy of closing I/P / Jew related articles at dusk? Because although it could not be moderated until the morning, it would attract the American ‘readers’/'commentators’ – and money money money is everything to this bunch of principled Swappies..

I nearly wore out my finger hitting the “report” button, but after the first few pages of comments I just gave up in disgust. I didn’t even bother trying to comment.
Is it even worth relating to these bigots? Sometimes I feel we must respond: we must not let their lies stand unopposed. Yet other times I feel “why bother?”. Does anybody notice their rubbish? Let them wallow in their own filth.

Sometimes it’s just not worth it. Just let them wallow in their own bigotry.

anneipt, I can identify with what you are saying. For myself, I believe we have to accept that what passes for the critical faculties of these fools are not capable of functioning optimally – in other words, it’s useless arguing with them for the most part.
However, their hatred remains online and worldwide and in an age where critical thinking is not encouraged or privileged, it influences discourse to an unhealthy extent. That being the case, places like CiFWatch and other blogs are very necessary, which pick such hatred to pieces and point up when these “journalists” are peddling their own prejudices and lies as hard fact .
The impact of the slow but steady refuting of Guardian and other lies upon the critical thinking-challenged below the line on CiF is that they experience even more discomfort and confusion. That has to be a good thing preparatory to dinning home to them what is really going on.

I agree with mitnaged. We’re never going to influence the haters, but it’s important not to let the haters’ lies be unchallenged, otherwise they’ll accepted as fact by the vast majority of people, including those who ARE open to reason.
anneinpt, I know you do a lot of good work yourself at your own blog, as do blogs like this. Kol Hakavod to everyone who can keep going against the tide of hate.

I agree. Send this out far and wide to the supporters of the Jewish state. I can think of few things that could be more guaranteed to bind them closer to the cause.
As the Guardian proves day in and day out under the leadership of Alan Rusbridger, a world without an Israel would amount to a death sentence for the Jewish people.

Mind you, it would leave the Guardian without a raison d’etre. The paper would collapse in weeks.

AKUS you are mistaken. They could find a lot of other subjects that the united losers of CIF can use as a valve to venting their frustration and jelaousy caused by the success of free societies.

It’s rather an extreme way of going about the dismantling of the Guardian, don’t you think, AKUS?

No, my point is that once Israel is finished, the Guardian would then move on to another issue vital to the concerns of the Jewish people. I don’t believe for one moment that it is anti-Zionism so much as anti-Semitism that motivates that newsaper.
Something else: why is Rusbridger’s name so frequently omitted here? Mentioning the Guardian without Rusbridger is like talking about Der Stürmer without Streicher.

Remember this is the Guardian that would come out and give us a 10 page story on how C.P. Scott is a right wing Zionist pawn now too. Someone put this paper out of its misery.

Among the more bizarre comments was this:

I hate to say it, and I wish it weren’t so, but this woman is seriously delusional. American Jews, the vast majority of them, are even more adamantly expansionist-Zionist than Israeli Jews are.
