A May 13 CiF piece by Jonathan Romain (John Demjanjuk’s conviction is about justice, not vengeance) was open to comments for an unusually short period of time, but produced this predictable comment by a serial Israel hater known as Berchmans, who took issue with a comment by HushedSilence characterizing Demjanjuk, the SS guard at the Sobibor death camp who was an accomplice to the murder of 28,000 Jews, as a “monster”.
HushedSilence then responded:
And then:
While we’re all too familiar with the Guardian displaying bias or double standards in their decision to delete some comments while allowing others to remain, I’m especially baffled by this deletion, and would really love to know how their moderators can possibly claim that HushedSilence’s comment in any way violated their “community standards”.

That momzer Berchmans must have a friend working for CIF because all he needs to do is complain and the offending comment disappears faster than you can say antisemitism.

This comment of Berchmans is a real find. If ever The Guardian is interviewed ‘live’ about CiF, this could really do them damage. The have been letting Berchmans run wild on the threads with very little control and this comment very much defines what Berchmans is actually about.
He hates Jews and anything to do with them.

Berchmans has special status at CiF, whether as their court jester or my own theory is that he’s been roped in to crank out the old tropes.
He’s not only an ignorant and inveterate Israel hater, he is recorded as having made numerous antisemitic statements (eg that he doesn’t blame Hamas for hating Jews “now”) and yet has never been banned. He even tried to pester CiFWatch until he grew tired of being reminded of certain of his self-confessed proclivities as regards Anne Frank.
Oh yes, once when I got to him he threatened to come round and bonk me in front of my friends. From that you get some sort of idea of what passes for his fevered imagination and CiF’s alleged “standards.”
In short, a thoroughly nasty piece of work with less insight than a gnat.

It does seem that Berchmans has a special status. He has probably had the most comments moderated/deleted of any commenter and is still not banned. I always suspected that he had a special connection to Georgina but she has been gone for quite a while now.
LaRitShit seems to have disappeared too and I often felt that they were in cahoots. With ‘Gentle’ Hermine too who has definitely been banned. She was probably commenting from a looney bin anyway judging by he ‘fantasies’.
I read a comment that MoveAnyMountain has been banned. Actually, CiF doesn’t deserve a commenter of such high intelligence.
It seems that Dotty has returned as SawaAlZaman. Some new commenter posted the connection and it seems to fit.

JerusalemMite, I have a very strong feeling that Berchmans, LaRit and others are connected in another way, although I don’t know which other than the loony Left “ideology” they share, which is an insult to true Left-leaners. LaRit has been curiously silent on CiF – was she banned?
I am sorry if MoveAnyMountain has been banned from CiF but I suspect you are correct – the mods are probably out of their depth with anyone with any intelligence who doesn’t spout the Guardian world view.
I no longer comment there – I was banned some time ago, no doubt because of Berchmans – but I sometimes drop in to see the animals at that particular zoo, present company excepted of course.
The persistence of the lunacy there, and always using the same tropes could provide excellent material for a PhD in abnormal psychology, focusing on the intractability of delusional thinking.
There are several there who I’m sure must be commenting during while the nurse is out of the room, or are pretending to take their medication but aren’t really.

Michael White of the Guardian on this subject:
John Demjanjuk should not be on trial

White and Buchanan: brothers under the skin:
The True Haters
http://buchanan.org/blog/pjb-the-true-haters-1495
———————
Michael White has a thing about the Holocaust. Here are just a few of the articles he has published about that genocide:
1) Here’s Michael White, in early 2008, on the Holocaust (my titles):
The Holocaust is such a bore
“MPs had a short debate yesterday to mark Holocaust Day, a familiar ritual in many countries which causes backbenchers like Hendon’s Andrew Dismore (not Jewish himself, but hot on anti-semitism) to be dismissed in newspapers as ‘Holocaust bores.’ ”
Don’t be mean to the Nazis
“My own favourite parliamentary speech on this subject remains that of the late Thatcherite economist, Lord Peter Bauer. In opposing Lady Thatcher’s 1990 war crimes bill – she used the parliament act to force it through – Bauer said approximately this: ”My Lords, I am a Jew who lost much of his family in the Holocaust. But I oppose this legislation because it is retrospective and therefore undermines the rule of law.” He then sat down. Not bad. I must check which way Mr Howard voted at the time.”
[Links no longer working]
2) Here, in late 2008, White criticises the extradition of Holocaust deniers, purely on principle, naturally. Look out for these special titbits: “an abuse of process in a country which has not – yet – succumbed to Germany’s “witch-hunt mentality”; “We should not forget, but it smacked of retrospective legislation, pandering again.” Jolly decent of White, however, to suggest that we should not “forget” the Holocaust:
“Two strands of the affair trouble me. One is the restriction on free speech inherent in the laws that some countries – not Britain – have against Holocaust denial. We have broader laws against racial incitement in general, which seems acceptable to me, though not to those who believe that older public order laws would have proved sufficient.”
“The other problem I have with this is process. When the European Arrest Warrant came into force in 2004 to help police fight cross border crime – and post 9/11 terrorism – more effectively it abolished the “dual criminality” principle.”
Once again, in the same piece, White attacks the War Crimes Bill:
“Holocaust denial is a lesser offence than involvement in war crimes themselves. Britain has a different problem here in that, in the chaos after 1945 when it was often hard to sort victim from persecutor, a lot of bad people slipped into this country and led quiet, guilty lives.
In 1991 Margaret Thatcher used the parliament acts to override the House of Lords, which had thrown out her war crimes bill, passed by the Commons. The average age of current MPs in 1939 was six, one peer remarked during the debate: let it go. But some 300 suspects live on in the UK, countered the bill’s supporters.
At the time I sympathised with the critics. It was all a long time ago, witnesses and accused were old, far away or even dead, their memories faulty at best. We should not forget, but it smacked of retrospective legislation, pandering again.
Last time I looked there had not been a single successful prosecution. Other more recent war crimes dominate the headlines. Who’s right?”

The Buchanan link is amazing. by the end of the piece he’s comparing demjanjuk with christ:
“The spirit behind this un-American persecution has never been that of justice tempered by mercy. It is the same satanic brew of hate and revenge that drove another innocent Man up Calvary that first Good Friday 2,000 years ago”. !!!!!

They are both loathsome characters. Of the two of them, I prefer Buchanan. At least he is honest. I have also heard that, incredible as it might seem, he is not as anti-Semitic as he appears. That thin-lipped patronising sneer of White’s, a sneer so typical of a certain type of Englishmen, bespeaks a rottenness that goes to the very core of his being.
In 2006 Michael White came out in support of the Muslim Council of Britain’s boycott of Holocaust Memorial Day. If I remember correctly (I have the article stored away somewhere, but I can’t be bothered looking) the thrust of White’s argument was that Muslims had no connection with the Holocaust and so were right to ignore it. His support certainly didn’t escape the notice of Inayat Bunglawala:
“Yesterday on Cif, the Guardian’s former political editor, Michael White, showed some understanding for the MCB’s stance.”
http://www.mpacuk.org/content/view/2910/0/
The Holocaust angers White, but not for the usual reasons – the decent reasons. I am a Zionist because of men like Michael White.

Berchman is such a dick. I mean this in a literal sense. He really is just a complete dick.
All my responses to his comments are usually deleted, while his remain. The moderating policy is so one-sided. He has been around for at least a year.
Probably some pissed of British pensioner with nothing better to do.

“Berchman is such a dick. I mean this in a literal sense.”
I disagree. Dicks have great utilitarian value, provide much pleasure and are considered aesthetically rather pleasing by a large percentage of the world’s population. I prefer to think of him as human refuse or waste. Ditto the journalists and editors at the Guardian.

Initially I found Berchmans funny. Then I saw that he was just there to provoke. Then I suggested to other posters that he’s a wind-up merchant who should be ignored. Now I just don’t bother commenting about him at all.
I disagree with HushedSilence a lot – but that was a very reasonable post if not laudable of theirs.
Berchmans’ response was sadly predictable.

Zeitgoose,
And, according to Buchanan, it is the same people doing the the persecuting. It was the damned Jews then, and it is the damned Jews now. According to Buchanan, all of the evils in the world are traceable to the damned Jews. If Demjanjuk and his pals had only finished the job in the first place, then everything now would be perfect for everyone else.

The Guardian is just as bad. According to that newsaper, all the evils in the world are traceable to the Jewish state.

Benorr, Isabella (Well, eff me) Mackie, Rustbucket’s daughter, is probably in charge of moderation at CiF, rather than being locked in a cupboard under the stairs where she belongs.

( Berchmans ) He’s so vain – I bet his thinks this article’s all about him
- doesn’t he?
He must be pleased at all the attention he’s getting.
Well, if you’re lurking hereabouts, asshole – here’s why we think you’re deranged :
1) You spend your waking time on CiF slagging off Israel and defending Muslims/Arabs ( without any known or self-declared connection or familiarity with the Israeli-Arab conflict ) and are obsessed with this subject, all the while pretending to be just a witty commentator.
2) You dishonestly minimize or try to explain away all instances of antisemitism on CiF for reasons best known to yourself but we aren’t fooled for one minute.
I wonder if it has ever occurred to you how lucky you are to have the freedom to write such things and see them published online. You display ostensibly your real name and picture without a care in the world, while we Jews/Israelis expressing our free opinions have to assume a moniker for fear of reprisals from fanatics and extremists ( who are plentiful on CiF ).
That difference alone should make you think before you write – but I fear it won’t.
