I just came across this at the Guardian, on the page which contains the recent volley of anti-Israel letters we just posted on:
Yes, as we all know, the “progressive” nature of any national movement is clearly in direct proportion to the degree to which Israel is vilified.

Anti-Israel demonstrations were about the only demonstrations Mubarak allowed.
The difference is that Mubarak and Sadat allowed an Israeli embassy to exist i.e. protected it.
Now…well, we’ll see. As if Israeli Jews have any illusions about Egyptian Judeophilia.

Mubarak protected the embassy from the same people who kicked out the Jews of Egypt to begin with.
Now The Guardian is on their side too, it seems.
Writing’s on the wall, folks. Writing’s on the wall…

How does protesting in front of the Israeli Embassy improve life for the Egyptian people? Odd, the right to protest against Israel is the component of democracy this person values most, meantime the army still rules…

‘How does protesting in front of the Israeli Embassy improve life for the Egyptian people? ‘
It harnesses them to the MB/TG/AJ agenda. With all the benefits that accrues.
It also bolsters the Seumus Milne argument that Israel and America are somehow chiefly responsible for Arab bondage.
Freedland may yet redeem himself by fighting Milne on that one. But I cannot see that ending but in his resignation, whereupon TG will only become more extreme.

NadiaE is either being an idiot (if she really believes that Egyptians haven’t actually been allowed to protest in front of the Israeli Embassy, since they’ve done so about 300 times in the past 20 years on CNN!) or a liar (if she really knows that protesting there is not only legal but rightful and happened all the time under Mubarak). If she’s an idiot, she only kind of fits into the Guardian’s ME stance. But if she’s a liar…the only real surprise is that she hasn’t been given a regular CiF column yet.

An Israeli newspaper reported a statement by former head of the IAEA, Muhamad El-Bardai (I don’t care if I’m writing the name correctly) A.K.A Mr. “Let Iran have their bomb, I don’t see any nukes here, do you?”
Anyhow he was reported as saying that in case of an offensive on Gaza an Egypt led by him would join in on the fun- attack Israel that is. “Defend” Gaza.
He’s the progressive one. The moderate. No talks of economic reform, dealing with unemployment. It’s attacking Israel that gets you the ticket.
Arab pluralism means all the different ways of saying “I hate Israel and the damn with everything else.

Yes, now that the “natives” might yet prove themselves capable of self governing, passive-aggressive patronizer elitists like Milne are in dire confusion. I’m sure he’ll find a new way on blaming everything on the west- You can’t let a great tradition like that die.
