The effect that CiF Watch is having on “Comment is Free” was dramatically illustrated on February 8th, when readers were treated to a brief but fierce debate that suddenly erupted in the thread attached to the latest rather innocuous offering from the Arsonist before the moderators at CiF could swing into action and remove any comments referring to “that other site”, as CiFWatch is known on … well, “that other site”. The debate centered on the interesting question –“Is Comment Really Free on CiFWatch?”
In a strange response to the following on-topic comment by frequent poster Jubilation1:
“grahamew” tossed out what he hoped would be a bombshell (don’t look for it – it was deleted some time later):
Of course, it was a bombshell, but perhaps not as he intended. Interestingly, I captured it when it had received at least 5 recommendations, so we know that there may be as many as 5 CiFers who don’t show up on CiF Watch lurking on the site (perhaps even reading this, eh, grahamew?).
Well, that was too much for some-time poster properbostonian who sprang to Jubilation1’s defence, and contributed an interesting new idea – that CiF Watch may be an organ of Hamas – possibly a little tongue in cheek (as before – don’t look for it – it was deleted some time later):
Despite the best efforts of the moderators, his post remained long enough to attract some attention.
Snowed in in the far north, occasional poster MiniApolis applauded his Eastern seaboard co-commenter, pointing out that it is indeed on CiF Watch that debate IS possible:
Note that MiniApolis bases his/her support on the debate raging between Matt Seaton and the Jewish Chronicle over the Alderman affair (as before – don’t look for it – it was deleted some time later).
But this drew a final comment in the thread on this issue from rabid anti-Israeli poster, Gareth100 (as before – don’t look for it – it was deleted some time later):
Now, Gareth100’s comment indicates a severely closed mind – not someone who pops over here to get the real story – since the Alderman affair has received very wide coverage here and in the blogosphere. In fact, Matt Seaton has referenced it himself:
So we had the interesting spectacle of seeing a string of comments discussing CiFWatch vs. CiF and referencing the Alderman Affair which no less a commenter than Matt Seaton himself had referred to on another thread – all deleted.
You be the judge – which site permits freedom of speech which is in no way abusive, and how scared have the powers that be (holed up at CiF HQ) become of CiF Watch’s scrutiny of their actions?

Good morning to you Biodegradeable (the human condition)
The Gazans speak an Egyptian style Arabic, the accent is distinctive. Hamas is an off shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. Gaza is a natural continuation of Egypt.

Indeed my handle came about as a result of a BBC article some years ago which talked about Jewish burial customs, the lack of space in Israel, and the growth of cremation as an alternative, and the opposition to it.
But enough of that ;^)

@ Margie
I challenged peter1′s reference to “CiF’s continued use of false terminology” as “Nazism” – and you say this a “minor point” and that I am “constantly halting the flow of conversation”??
And surely you yourself are guilty of the latter by posing that “what if” (in 1948) question.
Strange.

Margie,
Best just forget it, nothing you say to pretzelberg will get thru.
Even though I clarified Peter1′s point, pretzelberg can’t acknowledge it, not much seems to penetrate his thinking.
I just hope that pretzelberg will get around to apologising to IsraeliNurse?

Modernityblog,
You’re right some things are better left ignored.
I noticed the comment and chose not to reply because, if you don’t get it you just don’t get it and he doesn’t get it.

This is simply laughable.
You find peter1’s reference to “CiF’s continued use of false terminology” as “Nazism” perfectly OK?
Then it’s also OK for Margie to accuse me of “halting the flow of conversation by focusing on minor points”, i.e. accusations of Nazism??
She then herself halts the flow of conversation by bringing up 1948. But that’s apparently OK as well.
Do you not see how hypocritical she thus looks – and you likewise?
If I see comments here that I consider OTT then I am perfectly within my rights to challenge them. And no childish chatting amongst you will put me off.
So please do refrain from your petty ad hominem attacks.

pretzelberg,
On the contrary, I see your difficulty in reading things here and I feel sorry for you.
As a literalist and fairly humourless to boot, you must have great difficulty with the sarcasm, witticisms and complex ideas often found in these threads.
I can appreciate that, after all you continually ask questions, so you really can’t complain if someone answers them, politely.

‘@modernity. I dont understand what your problem with Pretzel is. You disagree with him on some things, well, ok, I do too, I’l probably disagree with you on a couple of issues as well.
Comment on Cif watch is however free and open to all(Thank goodness). Pretzel has defended Israel on many an occasion on cif, this continual bashing does no one any good

I am a minor victim of this issue.
I have been posting on CIF for over a year, and have had to get a new account name every couple of months when I say something the resident thought police object to.
A fewof these have been for pointing out the anti-semitic nature of some posts and their curiously high survival times.
I thought it was all part of life. You get barred, you get a new account and you carry on.
Oddly, since I posted on the Alderman affair, I have been persona non grata.
All I did was say that I agreed with the views expressed by CiFwatch and challenged Matt Seaton on a thread he was actively posting on, to say exactly which allegations he rejected.
I got barred, of course but since then a funny thing has happened. Every account I have registered since has been put onto pre-moderated status within 12 hours, even when I haven’t posted anything. I have lost seven or eight accounts in a couple of weeks.
I have used different e-mail addresses and given different details, but I still keep getting blocked.
The only thing I can assume is that my IP address is on a shit list, and I am not going to be able to post there again.
Comment is Free, my bottom.

Of course, pretzelberg knows much better about this than retired Israeli official Avner Cohen of Moshav Tekuma, the former religious affairs official in Gaza.
Yawn …
You know who I’m instantly reminded of? Those hapless pro-Israel chumps who in defence of Op. Cast Lead cite that one former British army commander (Kemp?) and his reference to the IDF as the most humane (or words to that effect) army in the world.
We are all aware, after reading your expert analysis of various military campaigns, that you are an experienced soldier and commander and that Col Richard Kemp is the merest tyro compared to you. I’m sure that he will apologise to you for his cheek in making a judgement on a subject on which you are so much better qualified to pronounce than he is, without previously consulting you.

@ Schadenfreude
My point was about people who make up their minds first and then seek and selectively cite sources that back up their views.
Or would you agree with gazagirl that Avner Cohen’s comments make it undeniably clear that Israel “created” Hamas?
