I have written 200 posts ..maybe more ..to CIF ..calling for all attacks on Israeli civilians to be condemned. I have never ever balanced this with a call for Israeli violence to be taken into similar consideration…despite the gross differentials in deaths of civilians.

Despite their dishonest and brutal regime I support Israelis as people.

You can see the local Moslems in action here- violent demonstration in Malmo. After initially throwing rocks at a small group of Jews singing “Hinei matov u’manaim” – how pleasant it is to sit peacefully among brothers” at timestamp 3:30 you see them starting to fire rockets and throwing fireworks at the Jewish group – Gaza in Malmo.

From what I know of the current state of trade union functioning, the key word for their rank and file is indeed “apathy.” As you say, trots and others take advantage of this. It beggars belief that “resolutions” can be adopted when only a relatively small number of the membership has voted on them.

We have seen this in the recent, and, as it turned out, illegal UCU attempts to boycott Israeli academics (the fools seem not to realise that if they did, half our universities would be functioning well below their best). I was at that Limmud meeting in Brighton. Julie Burchill got loud applause at the end of her interview. A few people did not like her more controversial comments but her sincerity shone through. There was not a ‘lot of tutting” and no-one that I spoke to after thought her “sycophantic” or “unhinged”.

The one criticism I had was that her interviewer was not very good.

Modernityblog, thanks for pointing up David Hirsh’s study of the the left and antisemitism. It’s probably a bit complicated for dopey to take on board but perhaps if he takes it nice and slowly….

I was at the presentation at SOAS where people commented on it. It was an interesting evening indeed.
