Tony Lerman does the same thing that other selfloathing Jews do when trying to give themselves cover. Lerman finds an obscure conservative chap somewhere in the bowels of Europe that few people have ever heard of. Then he denounces this obscure conservative in the most overheated rhetoric that he can muster up. Then Lerman demands that Jewish suporters of Israel also denounce the conservative, no matter how obscure the guy is.
But there is a basic flaw in the Lerman approach and that stems from the fact that Lerman is not a very clever man. Lerman will not denounce the virulent and nonstop stream of invective that comes from his soulmates George Galloway and Ken Livingston. Nor will Lerman write a column even hinting at criticism of Hassan Nasrallah or from Ahemedinejad or from Meshal of Hamas.
Lerman is rather easy to trounce in debate and I have trounced him several times in the comments section of the Guardian. Actually I kind of wish that Lerman were slightly smarter than he is. It might be more of a challenge.

Tony Lerman is consistent about one thing. He does not like Jews in Israel and he does not like Jews living in the Diaspora. No wonder why he works for the Guardian.

Margie - Doubtless the comments of the bigots’ brigade are consoling for him, but they do nothing at all to aid him in reaching his goals.

They do quite the opposite in fact.

Lerner is 'finished' amongst the vast majority of Jews, (Excluding the Guardian House Jews), and his articles for CI(F) will never be forgotten.

From what I read of what he writes Lerman's dilemma is that he wants to be important and he wants to elevate himself in the eyes of the influential by decrying Israel. Unfortunately, he chose to seek his importance among the very people who are loyal to Israel and who have therefore firmly rejected him. His solution is to write justifications of his attitude for cif. Doubtless the comments of the bigots' brigade are consoling for him, but they do nothing at all to aid him in reaching his goals.

AKUS:

Re your comment "my opinions about Britain’s sad moral and political decline", the Jerusalem Post published a review of Ephraim Zuroff's book on Friday that contains this quote:

"In 1987 Zuroff travelled to England to encourage the government to look into Nazis living there. England, which now threatens to prosecute Israelis for supposed crimes in Gaza, said that "the only question that [it] was ready to investigate was whether any of the suspects had violated local immigration law" because "prosecution was limited to crimes committed in Great Britain."

The Times of London condemned the efforts, noting that "Britain is a Christian country... [whose] laws enshrine principles of justice tempered with mercy not vengeance... it is wise and humane to let matters rest." The Telegraph used the term "alleged" to describe the Holocaust and said that "Nazi hunting has become a new and frankly distasteful blood sport."
