If you are a regular of the Middle East section of CiF, you know that every little happening in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza is the subject of an article in one form or another. Well that’s not exactly correct not at least if its an article that doesn’t quite comport with the Guardian World View.
Last weekend, Israel was awash with news over the release of the Gilad Shalit video, the first real proof that Gilad is still alive since his kidnapping over three years ago. If you haven’t seen the video you can view it here.
The release of the video provided plenty of fodder for articles and editorials at other news outlets that maintain comment threads similar to CiF. For example, the editors of the New York Times thought that the video was a worthy topic of discussion for its readers. And the same goes for The Huffington Post, Ha’aretz, Times Online, The Independent, Ynetnews and The Jerusalem Post.
So what do you think CiF’s take on the release of the Gilad video was?
Yes you guessed it. Nothing, nada, jack, zip, zilch. Instead, readers were treated to a Seth Freedman piece on the weekend clashes in the Old City with a follow up piece from Mick Dumper.
So what motivated CiF not to run a piece on the Gilad video? Its not as if CiF lacks writers capable of producing an article on the subject matter.
I smell a rat. What do you think?

Proud Zionist
I really wish I hadn’t read the Times link up there. The comments made are disgusting, suggesting that Gilad being captured is useful to Israel, and calling Israel hypocritical for “negotiating with terrorists”.
They just have no idea… it really makes me sick.
I thought the Times readers were a bit better than that. Maybe it’s a good thing the Guardian never reported it, who knows what their readers would have come up with.

Leni/Irish, yes please keep us informed and let us know what CiF says.
Post a link to it when it’s up, too.
I am sure that many of us would be interested in what you would write.

Proud Zionist, you make an interesting point – Israel is continually being placed in a classic double bind – damned if she doesn’t negotiate with terrorists and equally damned if she does.
It is sickening but is, unfortunately, typically of the sort of ignorant haters the I/P issue tends to attract, who seem deficient in impulse control, too, because they so often open their mouths without engaging what can loosely be described as their grey matter.

So thats typically deficient, ignorant , illness-inducing haters… Ive said before …but if you want to avoid a public 5H@991n9 you must try understatement and not expose your limitations.
People tend to be similar across the races.. across the regions and the world … if you are not a ” typically deficient, ignorant , illness-inducing hater ” ..why would anyone else be?
You take care.

The truth is I am pissed off with CIF just as much as these folk. They concentrate on Israel whilst we murder and brutalise far far more people than Israel even on a bad day. The new Internationalist cautions to count the war dead decades after the event to let disease take its toll eg people are still dying from the first Gulf war. We will have enabled a million to die in Iraq if not sooner.. then later.
.CIFwatch and othes are right to complain that the brutality of the IDF is often front page whereas somehow our f***ing horrific and far worse devastation of a way bigger and more populous area is neglected.
Our wanton slaughter has helped the IDF who can justifably say …”f*** off with your criticism…get your own house in order!”
Thank you for your post.

Irish – ‘The statement by your Nobel winner last week – that all prisoners should be released – may well be takenup by SF this week. She made the point, among othes, that for as long as Israel holds Palestinian prisoners Hamas will attempt to snatch more IDF guys.’
Yes. A sad statement.
She has brought honor to Israel and the Weizmann institute.
For her Chemistry.
Not for her sadly misplaced and naive political views. She has obviously not read the Hamas Charter or listened to its propaganda videos. It is a sickness of the extreme detached anarchist left to see the world as they want to see it.
Not how it actually is.
We are proud of her but saddened by her misplaced political views.
