My only comment is that if ever homegrown or other islamic terrorists G-d for bid stike again in the UK what will the reactions of the leftist readers of the Guardian or the Independent be if some members of their family will be killed or injured in an attack, will they still support these murderous fanatical islamists aswell as supporting Hamas and Hezbollah etc. Don't these naive politically illeterate leftwingers understand what is going on in the middle east, are they so stupid as to belive that the Israelis are just an extension of western colonialists, when in reality they are there for one reason only, the world never protected them or offered them citizenship in large numbers before the final solution was put in place by Hitler's Nazis.
To be truthful nobody wanted any more Jewish emigrants entering their lands. Canada said that even no jews were too many. Around 60% of the jewish population of israel today is comprised of Jewish refugees from the arab speaking world who's number at the inception of 'The State of Israel' in 1948 in the middle east including the maghrebi states (North Africa) was 1,000,000. Today there is barely 7,000 jews left in the whole of the arab world. (just over 5,000 in Morocco and around 1,500 in tunisia) The few hundred that are still residing in The Yemen are now fleeing for their lives, only last week around 60 left for the USA. Some have reached Israel recently. The Jewish refugees of the arab world outnumbered the arab refugees of post palestine by around 300,000, however no opalestinian propoganda in the west.

"The Guardian is Britain’s leading left of centre opinion maker. In recent years, the British left has displayed an increasing ignorance of what antisemitism is. These are not unrelated phenomena."

As long as the left in General and The Guardian in particular believe that Israel is "oppressing the Palestinian Arabs" and that that is the real problem they will never be able to see the putrid antisemitism that has infected its political mindset.

The relationship between Israel and the Arabs is too complex to be reduces to one of oppressor and oppressed.

Sababa - and all the Guardian’s readers editor had to say: I accept that some people think it’s an antisemitic play, but so what, we here at the Guardian liked it a lot and think it’s great art!!!

I wonder what they thought of the artistic content of Seven Muslim Children

Excellent piece.

"The manner in which the Standard slipped from antisemitic, to Israel and back to antisemitism is illustrative of many people’s confusion between the terms anti-Israel and antisemitism."

Let's face it Islamists don't care to distinguish between their visceral hatred of Israel and their equally implacable hatred of Jews and often use the two interchangeably, so it's hardly a surprise that their sympathisers and fellow travellers don't care to make the distinction either.

And you write, "Nevertheless, the Guardian as an institution – and as a consequence much of its constituency – has clearly allowed its hostility against Israel to erode both its understanding of antisemitism; and its vigilance against imagery that evokes deeply rooted antisemitic stereotypes."

Spot on. And it would not have been out of place to add that by so doing it opens the door to making that mindless hatred acceptable by repetition (anyone who holds his/her nose and reads Comment is Free articles will quickly see a pattern of argument (if indeed that is what it can be called) which revolves around a very few regurgitated and hate-filled themes. Particularly sickening is that these people actually believe what they are writing.

And sababa, I agree that Mark Gardner's piece about Seven Jewish Children was an excellent attempt to help the blind to see and the deaf to hear but al-Grauniad's response was typical of its narcissistic view of itself - along the lines of We like it so everyone else can go hang.

This is quite appalling; but nobody should think that it will matter to the Guardian to be caught like this: remember this disgraceful episode with the Churchill "play" on "Seven JEWISH Children"?
If it is true that it was about a dozen delegations that walked out in response to the nasty man's speech why was the hall so empty?
aficianado - BTW,JM this IS exactly where most Guardian readers want to be taken, just read their posts.

I feel that if this were true, many would not remain Guardian readers. The obvious bigotry pointed out by the article above should convince them of the underlying obsessive hate of anything Western that The Guardian exhibits.

Perhaps that should read 'Guardian Management' as I seem to remember other posters alluding to a Trotsky cabal who have taken control of the Guardian Newspaper.
